It's Friday...Will Russell Powell tell Sydney Anglicans about Jensen's support for those who seek to reintroduce the Ugandan 'Anti-gay Bill' aka 'Kill the Gay Bill''

David Ould blogspot reports that the Ugandan Anti-gay Bill is being pushed by Ugandan bishops including Peter Jensen's GAFCON allies. Will Russell Powell, who criticises the public media, inform Sydney Anglicans via the Sydney Anglican Network Portal about what they as part of the diocese are supporting? The Bill includes...
  • *A 7-year jail sentence for consenting adults who have gay sex;
  • *A life sentence for people in same-sex marriages;
  • *Extradition and prosecution of LGBT Ugandans living abroad;
  • *The death penalty for adults who have gay sex with minors or people with disabilities,
  •  consensual or no, or who communicate HIV via gay sex, regardless of condom usage or consent;
  • *Jail for anyone who doesn’t report suspected gay people within 24 hours;
  • *A ban on the “promotion” of homosexuality so open-ended that it would endanger HIV/AIDS
  •  treatment and sexual health clinics in the country and could effectively exclude gay people from
  •  petitioning the courts by making those representing them liable for criminal action;
  • *A mandate to break all ties with international commitments and laws opposing the Anti-
  •  Homosexuality Bill.

  • The Uganda Joint Christian Council says on its website that it works “to build a society that harmoniously co-exists and promotes, protects, respects and upholds human dignity.”

    2. You've spelled your name wrongly, Dobby.

    3. I knew the little house-elf wouldn't be able to maintain his latest bout of silence. From his spelling it looks like the boy's found some old communion wine in the back of the vestry cupboard: no doubt left over from some point in the distant past when his parish still believed the Sacraments have a role in Anglican worship.

    4. Well what d'ya know Calamity, not a squeak from Powell about the 'kill-the-gays bill'. But let’s not be too quick to condemn a paragon of Christian virtue such as Russ.

      It's inconceivable that he would have missed this story, given that, as he tells us, 'I normally check anywhere between 60 to 100 sites everyday...on what the media is saying about Christians and Christian issues'.

      Neither is it possible that those beacons of moral rectitude at St Andrew’s House could be wilfully ignoring the pain, suffering and injustice that this bill will cause gay Ugandans because publicising it risks exposing the dirty politics of the Sydney Anglicans.

      No. It must be that the Jensens are today in conference composing a response to this vile corruption of Christ's message by the Ugandan Anglican bishops who support this bill. I’ve no doubt Kel Richards will be inviting them onto 2CH this Sunday night for them to announce that they can no longer remain in communion with any who support this bill.

      Yeah, that’s the ticket – that’s what’s going to happen, for sure.
