Proposition 8 defeated in California but the principle is alive and well in the Church of England

The federal appeals court in California struck down Proposition 8 on narrow grounds today, ruling that the controversial ballot initiative that defines marriage as being between a man and a woman “singles out same-sex couples for unequal treatment by taking away from them alone the right to marry.”

Before the ballot initiative was passed in 2008, the California Constitution guaranteed the right to marry to opposite-sex couples and same-sex couples alike. Some 18,ooo same sex couples had obtained marriage licenses in the state.

Today the court said that Prop 8 “serves no purpose, and has no effect, other than to lessen the status and human dignity of gays and lesbians in California and to officially reclassify their relationship and families as inferior to those of opposite-sex couples.”

Similar thoughts could be extended to GAFCON...

We can dress it up how we like but remember the underlying purpose of GAFCON is to lessen the status and human dignity of gays and lesbians in the church, and officially reclassify their position as inferior to those attracted to the opposite sex... and no... it's not discrimination!

  1. I hope those three hunky men aren't engaged in homosexualist polyamory, although I fancy the old guy on the right.
